Police Officers, Teachers Qualify for 50% Discount on HUD Homes

First responders and teachers may be eligible for a special program offering a 50% discount on the list price of HUD Homes.   Good Neighbor Next Door (GNND) Program   is designed for law enforcement officers, teachers, firefighters, and emergency medical technicians.

Officer Next Door, Firefighter Next Door, EMT Next Door and Teacher Next Door programs discount HUD owned, single-family properties by 50% to qualified teachers and public safety officers. These programs are designed to help reduce crime, raise student test scores, and promote better relations between inner-city residents, police officers, and teachers. These homes are located in designated revitalization areas, subject to a three-year owner occupancy requirement.

HUD requires the purchaser to sign a second mortgage and note for the discount amount. No interest or payments are required on this “silent second” note provided the buyer fulfills the three-year occupancy requirement. The number of properties available is limited and the list of available properties changes weekly.
